  • The creation of “Decathlon Invention” to design and manufacture their Decathlon signature branded products. The bike set is one of the first articles manufactured.

1987 Decathlon In France

  • In France, team-mates become company shareholders.

1988 Decathlon’s Training Academy

1992 Decathlon Eco-Designed Approach

1994 Decathlon Campus in Northern France

1996 Decathlon’s First Brands

  • TRIBORD (water sports) & QUECHUA (mountain sports) see the light of day. These are Decathlon’s first brands.
  • They establish an industrial management department to optimize production processes.
  • The porte des alpes store no-121 opens its doors in Lyon (France). In 2011, it became our biggest French store with a 12,800 sq. m surface area.

  • They create Decathlon SportsLab. Its assignment: analyze the human body’s movements to design advanced technical products that are even more comfortable!
  • The logistics go international! 1st warehouse opens outdoors in France, in Martorell, Spain.
  • The store no-171 opens in Trans-en-Provence (Var, France). It was the small Decathlon store with an 898 sq.m surface area before being modernized and extended in 2018.

1999 Decathlon Launched B-Twin 5

  • Launched B-Twin 5, an excellent balance between an MTB & a city bike. Its slogan: “At ease just as much everywhere as everywhere”.

2001 – 25,000 Team-mates and 300 stores!

  • The official opening of the first Decathlon Village is at Bouc-Bel-Air (Bouches-du-Rhône, France).
  • New century, new stores. Decathlon opens in Brazil in Sao Paulo.

2002 Human Responsibility in Production

  • They unveil the “Human Responsibility in Production” charter and conduct the first audits of our suppliers.

2003 Decathlon’s 1st Store In China

  • 1st store in China opens in Shanghai.
  • They set up a “winning teammates” survey: an in-house indicator assessing teammates’ satisfaction.

2004 Decathlon Water Sports

  • The site in Hendaye opens (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France), entirely dedicated to water sports.

2005 Decathlon’s 1st Store

  • Decathlon faces the cold & opens its 1st store in Moscow (Russia).

  • Establish the eco-friendly leader network in our brands and industrial processes.
  • DOMYOS, the brand keen on indoor fitness sports, sets its sides up in the Domyos Centre of Marcq-en-Baroeul in Northern France.

2009 Golf Park opens in Marcq-en-Baroeul

  • HR in Products audits are led in-house.
  • Inesis Golf Park opens at Marcq-en-Baroeul (Northern France).

2010 45,000 Team-mates and 600 Stores!

  • Establish the B-Twin Village in Lille (Northern France), a new cycling park for bike enthusiasts.
  • They opened a new position dedicated to Human Responsibility in Production.

2011 – High-Quality Environmental Standard

  • In France, decathlon.com & decathlon.fr merge, making it more straightforward!
  • The 1st HQE (High-Quality Environmental Standard) store opens in Calais (Pas-de-Calais, France).

2012 Decathlon Experiments

  • Decathlon experiments with environmental labeling, enabling customers to compare its products’ impact.

2013 Decathlon’s 5-Key Commitments

  • Decathlon’s 5-key commitments supporting sustainable development are written.
  • They put in place an audit of building structures in Bangladesh.
  • They conduct Decathlon’s first company-wide carbon footprint assessment.

2014 Launch Click & Collect

  • Launch Click & Collect became their customer’s preferred delivery option in 2015.
  • They conduct the first generalized on-site water treatment audits at their dealers.

  • Kexuedadao (China) hosts the 1000th DECATHLON store.

2016 Decathlon Celebrates its 40th Birthday
